Making an Appointment

There are several ways to make appointments at the surgery.  We are trialling a new system for 6 months of offering fewer pre-bookable appointments and more same day access appointments,  which we hope will alleviate the problem of patients not attending their appointment and allowing poorly patients to be seen a lot quicker. 

We do have a doctor on duty each day to deal with patients who feel that they have a medical emergency and need to be seen urgently.   We do however still have some appointments available to be pre-booked these can be accessed via our online service.  We offer an increased access service 6 days per week in collaboration with 6 other practices in the area which has increased access for patients.

Our Doctors have consultation rooms upstairs and downstairs.  Please make an appointment with a Doctor of your choice and let the reception know if you are unable to get upstairs and the Doctor will use one of the downstairs consultation rooms to see you.

To help us best use our consultation time, the practice operates a telephone triage system for requests for same-day consultations. Some medical conditions can be dealt with more conveniently by telephone consultation with a doctor., other conditions will need to be seen at the surgery. The receptionists will ask you for a contact phone number and a doctor or nurse practitioner will ring you back as quickly as possible to decide with you the best way of meeting your needs.

PLEASE NOTE: to help the receptionist and the doctor, whatever the nature of your request, you may be asked for additional details. We do not mean to pry, only to clarify and assist.

We will try arrange an appointment with the doctor of your choice but sometimes this is not possible and you may be asked to see one of the other doctors. You may be asked to see an assistant doctor or hospital doctor in training - they are fully qualified.

Our appointments are generally 10 minutes apart. Please remember an appointment is for ONE PERSON ONLY, and a separate appointment is needed for any other persons attending for a consultation.

We try to offer an efficient and caring service, but because of the nature of our work delays and emergencies do occur, so please try to be patient and understanding.

Booking in at the Surgery

When you arrive for your appointment you can book yourself in using the touch screen in the reception area.  This logs your arrival onto the computer system so the person you are seeing knows you have arrived. You can use the screen to book in if you have an appointment with the doctor or practice nurse.
